Sous Vide, Now at Starbucks
If you’ve seen the news or been on social media lately you’ve probably seen this story. Starbucks is now offering Sous Vide Egg Bites. Using the sous vide cooking technique, they are quite delicious, so I’ve heard. Sous vide itself simply means “under vacuum” la cuisine sous vide, is cooking the food in the vacuum state. It was developed to help bring out all of the wonderful textures and flavors of your food.
I relate sous vide cooking to a crock pot on steroids. What some people might not realize about sous vide cooking is that it is actually in more chain restaurants than they realize. Starbucks is hardly the first to tackle sous vide and certainly will not be the last. Other restaurants using this technique for food preparation include; Panera, Chipotle, Applebee’s, and many more.
This cooking method involves using an immersion circulator, to heat and circulate the water to a specific cooking temperature. This allows you to cook the food at the serving temperature, preventing overcooking. Once the water reaches the desired temperature, add your vacuum sealed food to the water bath and wait. Then simply finish it off on the stove or the grill for some texture, and enjoy.
Sous vide technology is making headlines, and with the flavor it produces, we understand why. Who says you have to be a chef to cook sous vide? You can try it yourself at home with VacMaster’s own SV1 Immersion Circulator.
