      Easy Green Bean Casserole Recipe

      Ingredients

      1 1/2 Pounds Green Beans

      FOR THE CRISPY FRIED ONIONS

      3 Tablespoons All Purpose Flour

      3 Tablespoons Rice Flour

      1/2 Teaspoon Kosher Salt

      1/4-1/2 Cup Butter Milk

      2 Red Onions

      1/4 Teaspoon Black Pepper

      Vegetable Oil for Frying

      FOR THE MUSHROOM CREAM

      3-4 Teaspoon Unsalted Butter

      1 Pound Mushrooms

      3/4 Teaspoons Kosher Salt

      2 Large Garlic Cloves

      3-4 Tablespoons All Purpose Flour

      2 Tablespoons Mushroom Powder

      1 1/2 Cups Vegetable Broth

      1/2 Cup Heavy Cream 

      1 Tablespoon Thyme

      1-2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice

      Directions

      1. For the green beans...

      Bring large heavy bottomed pot of salted water to a boil over high heat

      Ass the beans and bring back to a boil and cook for 4-6 minutes until the beans are tender, but not soft or mushy

      Drain beans in colander then immediate plunge them into a large bowl of ice water to stop the cooking

      Drain the chilled beans and spread out to dry on a paper towel lined trays, reserve refrigerated

      2. For the crispy red onions...

      In a deep fryer set up accordingly to manufacturers directions

      In a medium sized mixing bowl toss the onions with buttermilk until fully coated

      In another medium sized bowl blend together both flour

      Add the buttering coated onions, just a handful at a time into the flour mixture and coat fully

      Carefully fry onions in a single layer being carful no to overcrowd and fry until a light golden brown 

      Remove onions and drain on a paper towel

      3. For the mushroom cream...

      In a medium sized bottomed non reactive sauce pan over medium-high head, melt butter with olive oil

      When butter begins to foam add the mushrooms and sauce until they star releasing their liquid, anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes continue to cook until the mushrooms begin to brown

      Add the garlic, salt, pepper and sauce a minute or so more

      Add the flour and the mushroom powder, stir vigorously until the mixture is fully coated 

      Add brother 1/4 cup at a time, stirring the whole time making sure you scrap up any bits that might be sticking to the bottom of the pan

      Add the cream bring to a simmer, cooking until the sauce thickens a but, about 5-6 minutes stirring frequently

      4. For assembly and baking...

      Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F

      Highly butter a suitable sized baking dish or casserole

      In a large mixing bowl toss the cooked, drained and chilled green beans with the mushroom cream sauce and stir until they are coated

      Sprinkle the crispy red onions evenly on too

      Bake for 15 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbling and the onions are crisped

      Serve immediately
