Four Things to Know this Fall Turkey Season
Twice a year I look forward to hunting one particular bird. If you've got Turkey on the brain, we're on the same page, and Fall Turkey Season is here! If you haven't gotten out there yet to take your own bird, you've still got some time, though season dates do differ based on location. Make sure you have a valid permit and know the season dates for your favorite hunting spots. Make sure your VacMaster Vacuum Sealer is all set to process that bird when you bring it home. Vacuum sealing your game for storage can help it to last up to five times longer than traditional storage methods. New to Turkey hunting? Need a refresher? Even if you're a seasoned turkey hunter just excited for the season check out our Turkey Hunting Infograph below. |
1. When planning and hunt, it is important to know the best time of day/best conditions to hunt your desired game during. For wild turkey, your best bet is going to be calm and clear mornings at sunrise, though you may also find success during a light rain. 2. Calls, know and practice your calls before you hit the field. For turkey hunting a slate call is the most common. Be aware that there are around 30 different turkey calls in the wild, these include hen yelps, tree yelps, roost clucks, and plain clucks. Take a little time to recognize as many as possible. 3. Make sure you have the right gear on you when you start your hunt. Your best bet is a good turkey vest, as it will have places to store important items such as maps, calls, decoys, strikers, water and snacks. 4.Also, turkeys have sharp eyes, be sure to blend in, camouflage shirts, pants, gloves, jackets, and even face mask/paint will help you remain undetected. |
