5 Essentials for the Perfect Picnic
Somehow food seems to taste better when you get to eat it outside. It may be the fresh air mixing with the food, or the sunshine on your face, but it's one of the greatest feelings, to relax outside, while enjoying some good food. Picnics are a great opportunity to take advantage of nice weather and eat outdoors, whether you go to your favorite park, or enjoy the confines of your own yard, having a picnic just makes lunch more fun. 1. Food Make sure you bring the right food for the occasion. If you are going to a remote location, don't bring hot dogs or burgers to grill. Safe bets for your picnic lunch are foods you can prepare ahead of time, think along the lines of sandwiches, potato salad, fruit salad and other summer time favorites. If you are preparing ahead of time vacuum sealing (use zipper bags for easy opening) is a great way to pack your foods to prevent spilling and keep them tasting fresh. 2. Drinks You are going to need something to drink along with all the tasty food you bring, even if it's just water, you'll want to stay hydrated if you're spending time in the sun. Other fun drink options could include juice, or mixing up a batch of sangria, or summer brew, whatever you like to sit outside and drink on a beautiful day. 3. Utensils Many picnic foods are finger foods, but if you pack anything that needs utensils, looking at you potato salad, bring what you need to serve and eat those. Plastic wear is a safe option if you don't want to worry about bringing home dirty dishes or losing anything. This also goes for plates, bowls and drinking cups. Make a list of what you are bringing, to have an idea of which utensils you will need to pack. 4. Blanket This is especially important if you choose a location that doesn't have picnic tables, bring a blanket large enough for your spread and your group to sit on, bring more than one if you need to. Really any blanket will work, but they do have picnic blankets with a waterproof side that are particularly nice, especially if the ground is a little wet. 5. Basket Last, you'll need something to carry everything you've got to bring with you, a picnic basket is a fun way to add to the fun, and it's any easy way to carry everything. Don't worry about it if you don't have a fancy one, any basket that holds your picnic supplies will do! |
